Area 4 Partners Support Communities in Pemba

Maputo, March 10, 2021 - The area 4 Rovuma Basin partners have just held the symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony of a primary school to the municipality of Pemba.

The construction of this school is part of the Eni Integrated Education Project, which aims at increasing the education opportunities for the children of the Paquitequete neighbourhood, besides contributing for the fulfilment of the United Nations Development Agenda for the year 2030 that provides, as one of the pillars, the Sustainable Development Goal 4 - a quality education for all.

The Mayor of Pemba City, Florete Simba Motarua, commenting on the sidelines of the inauguration of the school, praised the achievement stating that "This new school, at this geographical point, will help us educate future generations of Pemba, Cabo Delgado and Mozambique. Competence is the basis of independence and because the most powerful weapon in the world is education, then we as a Municipality and our partners are providing that tool".

Roberto Dall'Omo, Eni Rovuma Basin General Manager stated that the schools should become development hubs "Our vision with this Integrated Education Project is to transform the schools into the main hubs of human and socio-economic development of the Paquitequete community", considered the head of the concessionaire.

Besides the infrastructural component, which consists of the construction and equipping of this new primary school, a multipurpose sports field, and a canteen; the installation of a photovoltaic system at Kuparata school and the rehabilitation and expansion of two kindergartens in Pemba, the project also focuses on human capital and nutrition. Specific initiatives will be undertaken such as the training of teachers, educators and managers; promotion of extracurricular activities such as sports, horticulture, poetry, theatre, etc., to reduce school dropouts; scholarships for secondary, technical and vocational education; adult literacy; awareness campaigns on education, health, environment and the provision of school lunches.

The Area 4 is operated by Mozambique Rovuma Venture S.p.A. (MRV), which holds 70% in the concession contract for research and production and also includes Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos E.P. (ENH), Galp Energia Rovuma B.V. and KOGAS Mozambique Ltd., each with a 10% participating interest.
