Business Opportunities in the Pande and Temane Project
Maputo, February 9, 2021 – To this end, Sasol has provided a range of opportunities for national business, which includes several categories of goods and services.
This action stems from the government’s approval of the Local Content Plan in November 2020. The plan launched here establishes strategic mechanisms aimed at improving the access of Mozambican companies to business opportunities in Sasol projects, based on five main pillars, namely Local Acquisitions, in order to increase spending on goods and services provided by national companies through the implementation of a preferential procurement procedure; Business and Supplier Development Program, aiming to train and prepare local small and medium-sized enterprises in key areas and increase access to business opportunities at SASOL and other companies; Creation of a Fund for small and medium-sized enterprises, aiming to provide affordable financial products; Local employment, aiming to develop the capacity of Mozambicans through basic education focused on STEM, vocational training program and professional development program; and Research & Development and Technology Transfer, aiming to develop and implement initiatives in line with the purpose in partnership with the Government.
The goal is that by the end of 2024 SASOL will spend 71% on local suppliers and reduce spending on foreign companies by about 50%.
It is recalled that SASOL has spent approximately $1.56 billion from the beginning of the project on the acquisition of goods and services at national level, of which approximately 44% ($692 million) has been paid to Mozambican suppliers and suppliers registered in Mozambique with 1,527 national and registered companies in Mozambique, and during the same period more than 300 permanent jobs and more than 3,500 indirect jobs were created.
