INP Highlights the Importance of the New Exhibition Hall in the National Museum of Geology and its Added Value

The ceremony that took place amid the pandemic, a fact that has had repercussions on the dynamics of the oil and gas industry in the country, marked the reopening of the emblematic building of the National Museum of Geology, promising to be another space that could boost not only the economy of the country, but above all, bring about greater interaction between society and the Geosciences of Petroleum through the exhibition. Speaking before the audience, Dino Milisse, Director of the National Museum of Geology, praised the importance of the investment made by the partners in the rehabilitation of the museum and guaranteed that the exhibition will be permanent and regularly updated.

Speaking at the inauguration, INP Chairman Carlos Zacarias highlighted the relevance that both commitment and investment of partners have in increasing knowledge about the hydrocarbon related sciences and activities. "We are very pleased to know that a specific segment has been conceived in this space that will focus on petroleum geoscience and we hope that it will become a prominent center for studies and reflection on several subjects, from hydrocarbon exploration, production and not only" said Zacarias.

Teodoro Vales, The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy-MIREME, said that "the event marks a new phase in the history of hydrocarbons and the museum's collection should serve as a sample of what the country has." He recommended the institution to seek present solutions so that the museum may serve everyone seeking knowledge in the area. He also pointed out that the museum should promote interaction between students, researchers and other stakeholders, considering that the reopening slogan “Mozambique Petroleum Resources, From Exploration to Production " stresses the importance of hydrocarbons in Mozambique in its economic development and job creation for young Mozambicans".

Laila Chemane, representative of Total, said that this action is part of the company's Social Responsibility program, which aims to contribute to the increase of young people's knowledge in the oil and gas field, which can serve as a catalyst for their insertion in the labor market and contribute to the vitality of the museum, making it an increasingly visited place, both at the level of Mozambique, as well as from all quarters of the world. And for Julien Leron, technipFMC representative, understanding geological aspects of the country is crucial for all Mozambicans and students in particular, hence the decision to support the project.

It should be noted that for the implementation of this project about U.SD 235.000 were mobilized, 210.000 of which came from TOTAL and the remaining 25.000 were disbursed by Technip.

The National Museum of Geology, located on 24 de Julho avenue in Maputo, has over 100 years of history. It was created in 1940 in the colonial period (the former Freire de Andrade Museum) and was designated, years after independence, the country’s exposition hall of geological riches.
