His parents separated when he was still a child, and he lived with his various stepfathers for the most of his childhood and didn't get to meet his biological father until he was twelve.

However, he got the proper education and opportunities later on and graduated from the Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia, in 1964. The New Generation era proved to be a tough road for Vince McMahon and WWE, as the business started showing some fluctuations due to the emergence of WCW as a tough competitor. It led to him changing the company's product to more adult-oriented and introduced the attitude era, which famously began after the infamous Montreal Screwjob in 1997.

He downplayed his ownership of the company throughout the early eras of WWE and only showed himself as a commentator, but the attitude era marked the beginning of the evil Mr. McMahon character, which became one of the vital parts of the company's direction in the years to come.

He had matches against the likes of Shawn Michaels and Triple H during this phase and lost his hair in the Battle of the Billionaires match at WrestleMania 23.

He then went the extra mile and captured the ECW World Heavyweight Championship at Backlash 2007. He held the title for 35 days and walked around with a smug attitude, wearing a Durag before he lost it to Bobby Lashley at One-Night Stand 2007.
